Thermally bonded fabrics are produced both from entirely thermoplastic materials and from blends containing fibers that are not intended to soften or flow on heating. Raw material components are polypropylene, polyester, nylon, polyethylene and some others. Fibrous web must include thermoplastic fibers or at least thermoplastic powders. This method is applied generally to high loft structures to get identical bonding. The perforated nozzles to melt or soften one or more components of a web to achieve bonding. Thermal bonding is much less energy intensive, kinder to the environment and more economical.
A wide range of products can be made with thermal bonding, depending on the options used for processing. The bonding method has a significant effect on product properties. Depending on the bonding method, product properties can vary from nonporous, thin and non extensible and non-absorbent to open, bulk, extensible and absorbent.
